I was planning on doing a detox in general because I have been feeling pretty crappy. I am tired all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. I am stressed and unhappy with my life, which I understand is my doing, but I think we all hit the frustration point at some point in our lives. If I wasn't so busy I think I would be extremely depressed, but I also don't know if it is because I am so busy that my mood is so low. All I know is that something is going to give and I don't want to end up locked up in the looney bin. I know my eating and exercise play a huge part in my mood so I have to do something.
As luck would have it, I spent last Sunday celebrating my friend, Natalie's graduation. While we were together she told me about a movie. "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead." In the movie Joe goes 60 days on his Juice Fast. I don't know if I can go that crazy, but after researching a little bit online and talking with Natalie, it seems like it is the best way to detox your body from all the crap. I have not done anything like this and to be honest, I totally am against weight loss gimmicks. I like that Joe calls it a Reboot. Because once your done detoxing, you can't go back to the same habits that you started with. You are in a different mindset because you should be free of your cravings for the processed foods. I don't feel as much that I am being crazy doing this. (God, I hope that I am not some crazy gullible shlub that ends up joining a cult.)
I don't think I can commit to 60 days, hell, I don't know if I can even commit to the initial 10-15 days that is recommended. The first 3-4 days (some people say up to 7) are the hardest. A lot of cravings, feeling nauseous, feeling tired...a lot of time in the bathroom... Yeah I said it. Count me in, right? But if can make it through your body detoxing all the crap out of your system in the first few days, I have read that the results can be amazeballs. Lots of energy, weight loss, better mood, etc.
So I have enlisted my parents and my friend to join me on this crazy journey today. Natalie and her boyfriend, Ken will be starting Monday. A couple things that will be different for all of us is that we won't be "Juicing" we will be "Mixing" (I think that is what Natalie called it.) So with "Juicing" you strain out all the pulp and that takes the fiber out. There are benefits to it from what I have seen on Joe's website, but mostly a faster weight loss. While I am totally up for the weight loss part, I am not doing it solely for that purpose. I just want to be healthier and there are a lot more benefits to keeping the pulp in it (from what I have read, so I could be dead wrong since I have been researching this for all of one week). Plus, I can eat the vegetables and fruit if I want too, but I am going for the maximum benefit of blending it.
We will see how it goes. I have the next three days to hide out from people and hopefully make it over the hump. I think if I keep myself busy I can make it through...
One day in and I am already wanting to bail. My mom and dad are starting Monday since they thawed out 2lbs of hamburger or because they don't want to start yet. At any rate, my mom's hot dish smelled delicious. She also bought a big package of seaweed and so then all I wanted was seaweed and rice with a big glass of milk. Then there is cheese. Cheese is so wonderful and glorious. I could go for a good piece of cheese now. Oh well. Not looking forward to tomorrow.
