Day 7 - 12 - Working Around Life

I bet you thought I stopped working out per my regular routine of starting for a week or less and then stopping. Well, I did not. Woot! What? I know, right? I am on it this time and closing in on the end of Week 2! I cannot really believe it myself, but it is pretty motivating to have a workout buddy and a bet. The past week has consisted of meeting up with my Out of Towners! My Melissa was in town from Utah which also included my munchkin, Hannah, the twins and hubby Nathan. Also, the Blakney's were here all the way from Alaska with the almost too cute for words, Sophia who is 2 going on 16.

Day 7 was luckily my off day and my special day with Hannah. We spent a copious amount of time walking around the MOA which was not what I was hoping for on my day off since my legs were like jelly, but I think it was good for me. As luck would have it, I have not started to eat better either and it was a day of Cinnabon and malts. Not a good day to be eating healthy. Plus, later that night I was on to "helping" my mom make Egg Rolls and Bulgogi for Wednesday, which by the way are not great for you.

Day 8 went well, I did my workout in the morning and headed out to the cabin to meet the Blakney's and cook up a Korean Bonanza of food. As far as the workout, I really actually enjoy this one, but find it to be the hardest of the bunch for me. I think I realistically do about 60% of the video and spend the rest of the time looking like a caged animal pacing around. But I felt really good after the workout. As far as the cabin goes, the up and down of the stairs in the cabin, plus the up and down of the stairs to and from the lake sparked the beginning of my knee problems.

Day 9 is where working around life comes into play...well really the night of Day 8. I originally had planned on just being at the cabin for the day, but ended up spending the night and did not leave until the big PM on Day 9. Which caused an upset Mama Bear because my cousin, Jaekyun, was leaving for Korea and I was supposed to be back for dinner. Needless to say I was not going to make it back for that, but wanted to say goodbye. Plus, I needed to get back and workout, which was on my mind all day because I didn't want to be the first to take a dive on this bet. Herein lies my biggest mistake. I came back and eventually did my workout at around 10 in the PM. Looking back, I should have taken my off day early, but you live and learn.

On Day 10, I was heading back to the cabin and therefore worked out in the morning. This left me with less than ten hours of rest for my knee in between. My knee felt fine during the workout, but once out at the lake and hitting the stairs again, something started to feel off in my knee.

I decided to wait and give my knee a longer rest for Day 11, so I ended up with a night workout again. Night workouts have to be the worst idea ever. I enjoy working out on an empty stomach. Maybe it is wrong, but I never feel like I work as hard or feel very good if I have a tummy full of food no matter how many hours I wait after eating. I also enjoy getting it out of the way in the morning so there leaves no excuse to miss it later in the night and believe me if there was not a bet, I would have pushed the night workouts off to the next day. I was draggin' arse, I mean hardcore pushing myself to get the workout over with and I love Cardio Recovery, but I just was so beat and my knee felt so wrong, that I just wanted to get it over with. Not a great attitude.

Finally we hit Day 12 and it is the day after my Out of Towners have left and I decided to stay in bed ice my knee and read today. I gave my knee the full 24 hour rest period and did the workout. My knee was definitely hurting today before the workout and that was a bad sign for me, because my knee has always felt "off" but it has never hurt. I think it was just too much between the stairs and the close workouts for my poor little knee. I really thought about taking my day off today and giving it more time, but I wanted to just try it and see how things went. Huge surprise, it hurt in the beginning, so I modified. But with each round of the warm-up I tried it again and by the end of the stretching it was only hurting a little and by the end of the workout it did not hurt at all. I did baby it, but in all honesty it was not much different from my normal workouts. (How sad.)

So here I sit/lay typing, what could be considered, my most boring post ever with my knee iced and elevated. Sorry for the long, long, and boring, boring post, but I needed to document my week and I am too tired to even try to be witty. I am not too worried though, I am pretty sure the whole two people who read this will just bypass the entry. One more day and I will be done with Week 2! Woot!
